Nurse practitioners (NPs), Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), and other advanced practice clinicians who care for women.

Educational Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, clinicians should be better able to:

  • Understand the differences between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
  • Develop confidence in taking inclusive sexual health histories for all patients.
  • Identify best clinical practices for providing gender affirming care to transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.
  • Understand and be prepared to offer common hormone therapy protocols for gender affirmation, including knowledge of side effects and monitoring used for medical transition.
  • Discuss options for gender affirmation surgeries and how to help patients prepare for them.

Successful Completion of the Activity:

Successful completion of this online activity, 18-04-35, requires the participant to:

Program description:

In this 3 hour interactive workshop you will learn best practices and guidelines for providing sexual and reproductive health care and gender affirming therapies for individuals who identify as transgender or gender non-conforming. You will walk away with knowledge and tools to take back to your practice to feel confident and competent in providing care for these populations.

This activity has been evaluated and approved by the Continuing Education Approval Program of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH), and has been approved for 3.0 contact hour(s) of CE credit.  Each participant should claim only those contact hours that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
