Beth Kelsey, EdD, APRN, WHNP-BC, FAANP

Dr. Beth Kelsey has served as editor in chief for the official journal of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH) since 2013. She is director of publications for NPWH with the primary responsibility of leading the writing of position statements. As a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, she has provided healthcare at family planning, prenatal, and sexually transmitted infection clinics. As an educator, she taught for over 30 years at Ball State University in Indiana, serving as DNP program director. She is editor/co-editor of five editions of Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide. Dr. Kelsey is dedicated to mentoring WHNPs to grow professionally as leaders in women’s and gender-related healthcare, engaging with aspiring writers both one on one and through writing workshops.

Eva M. Fried, DNP, CNM, WHNP-BC, FACNM

Dr. Eva Fried is currently the Clinical Director for the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwifery Programs at Frontier Nursing University. In this position she is the lead for clinical courses in the relevant specialty tracks and supervisor for regional clinical faculty.  She is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and certified Nurse-Midwife in clinical practice with University Hospitals in Northeast Ohio.  Dr. Fried has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Certified Nurse Midwives. Dr. Fried’s areas of professional and scholarly interest include belongingness in both educational and healthcare environments, health equity, and menopause. She has published and presented nationally on these topics.

 

 

Vanessa Garcia, DNP, WHNP-BC, RNC-OB

Dr. Vanessa Garcia is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and inpatient obstetric nurse. She practices in the Maternal Fetal Medicine high-risk obstetrics clinic at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey. She currently serves on the Perinatal Services Committee, Breastfeeding Committee (to increase breastfeeding rates in the hospital), and Quality Improvement Committee. Dr. Garcia is clinical adjunct for Rutgers University, precepting nurses at various levels of education (BSN-MSN). She received the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Special Appreciation Award for outstanding contributions to the education of obstetrics and gynecology residents in 2020 and 2024 and a Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation Scholarship in 2022.

 

 

Nalo M. Hamilton, PhD, MSN, WHNP-BC, ANP-BC

Dr. Nalo Hamilton is Associate Professor at UCLA School of Nursing and the Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry at Meharry Medical College and later an MSN degree at Vanderbilt University.  Her background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and nursing coupled with her clinical expertise gives her a unique perspective on education in the sciences and clinical development. Dr. Hamilton has received recognition for her research from the American Association for Cancer Research, University of California at Los Angeles, National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the California Breast Cancer Research Program and the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health.   

 

Heather D. Hanegan, MSN, APRN, WHNP-BC

Heather D. Hanegan is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in practice at The Ohio State University’s James Comprehensive Cancer Center and Solove Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio for 13 years including completion of an oncology fellowship with a focus on hematologic, breast and gynecologic cancers.  Her current clinical practice is focused on treating women with gynecologic malignancies, including participating in the management of clinical trials. Ms. Hanegan’s particular interest is in prevention of disease, and treatment of minority women with cancer, especially immigrant and refugee women. She is co-author of an article on perceptions of cervical cancer screening, screening behavior, and post-migration living difficulties among Bhutanese-Nepali refugee women in the United States.

 

 

Aimee C. Holland, DNP, WHNP-BC, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN

Dr. Aimee Holland is Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Clinical Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her faculty practice providing gynecology services at the UAB Student Health and Wellness Clinic is the primary platform for her scholarly work focusing on office gynecology procedures, contraception, vaginal infections, and gynecologic cancer prevention. Dr. Holland is co-editor of the 5th edition of Advanced Health Assessment of Women: Skills, Procedures, and Management. Her service as a National Health Service Corp ambassador and nurse practitioner inspired the creation of an office gynecology procedures workshop for primary care providers that has increased access to specialized women’s healthcare globally. Dr. Holland currently serves on the board of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.

 

Casey S. Hopkins, PhD, WHNP-BC

Dr. Casey Hopkins is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Clemson University where she also holds an appointment as Faculty Associate in the Center for Research on Health Disparities. She has a clinical practice in the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Prisma Health in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Hopkins’ research interests include women’s and female adolescent health, including aspects of reproductive and sexual health and physical activity, health disparities among women with disabilities, and improving health outcomes with community-driven research initiatives. As a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE), she leads a federal grant-funded team working to improve the care of sexual assault survivors and expand the SANE workforce in South Carolina.

 

Stephanie Jacobs, DNP, FNP-C, CNM

Dr. Stephanie Jacobs is Director of the DNP Program and Assistant Professor of nursing at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is nationally certified as both a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Nurse Midwife and has more than 25 years of clinical experience and 10 years teaching experience in higher education. She continues clinical practice at Magee Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and is a clinical expert in gynecology and obstetrics. Dr. Jacobs is currently completing a PhD at Duquesne University. Her research interests are postpartum depression and Centering Pregnancy in African American women. She is an experienced presenter at national and international conferences.

 

 

Erin M. Kiser, DNP, MPH, FNP-BC, WHNP-BC

Dr. Erin Kiser is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in obstetric and gynecologic settings for over 17 years, including providing care for active-duty service members, retirees, and their family members in a military healthcare setting. She served as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing, Uniformed Services University precepting active-duty nurse practitioner students. Her professional interests include tropical medicine, global health, and health disparities in developing countries. Dr. Kiser holds a master’s degree in public health with a focus on global health. She is the author of journal articles on the role of nurses and maternal care during the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa and the role of nurses during hurricane recovery. 

 

 

 

Jean M. Marino, WHNP-BC, MSCP, IF

Jean Marino is a board-certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, specializing in menopause and women's sexual health. She is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner and a Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. She holds a dual appointment at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in both the OB/GYN and Urology departments, where she is instrumental in the Female Sexual Medicine department. Ms. Marino is the co-owner and co-founder of The Menopause Retreat, a company dedicated to educating and empowering women on menopause, pelvic medicine, and urology. She has published and presented nationally on sexual health and menopause management topics and served as an investigator in research on female sexual arousal and orgasm disorders.

 

 

Kristin Metcalf-Wilson, DNP, WHNP-BC

Dr. Metcalf-Wilson has 30 years of experience in women’s health, specifically sexual and reproductive health. In addition to her direct patient care, she has over 20 years of teaching and training experience and served as Vice President of Health Services and Lead Clinician at Planned Parenthood Great Plains. Dr. Metcalf-Wilson is currently the Project Director for the Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health at the Collaborative to Advance Health Services, and Assistant Research Professor with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies. It is in this capacity that she creates, develops, and delivers clinical training and technical assistance to practicing clinicians around the United States in the areas of sexual and reproductive health.

 

 

Shawana S. Moore, PhD, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, PNAP, FAAN

Dr. Shawana S. Moore is Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Assessment and Evaluation at Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Moore’s policy and advocacy work has shaped women’s health curriculum and continuing education to recognize health inequities for women of color and individuals of diverse gender identities. Her funded program engages nurse-led efforts to empower marginalized adolescent girls. She has instituted regional and national initiatives to recruit and retain students from minoritized populations into the nursing profession and has published and presented widely on structural racism in the nursing profession and women’s health inequities. Dr. Moore is distinguished as the first African American President of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (2022-2023) and the inaugural co-chair of the organization’s Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity Committee.

 

Jamille Nagtalon-Ramos, EdD, WHNP-BC, IBCLC, FAANP

Dr. Jamille Nagtalon-Ramos is Assistant Professor of Nursing at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She was instrumental in developing the inpatient hospitalist NP role in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (now Penn Medicine) in Philadelphia in 2003. She continues to practice in this role. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos’ research interests are fueled by her expertise in women’s health and cultural roots. As a third-generation nurse born and raised in the Philippines, she is passionate about exploring the Filipino American experience and examining the sexual reproductive health and health disparities of Filipino women in the global diaspora. She has co-authored three editions of Midwifery & Women's Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide and is lead author for the 6th edition. Dr Nagtalon-Ramos serves on the executive committee of the Fellows of American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

 

Lisa S. Pair, DNP, WHNP-BC, CRNP, FAUNA

Dr. Lisa S. Pair is Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Nursing. She has over 20 years of experience working as a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at The Kirklin Clinic, Division of Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery in Birmingham Alabama focusing on complex gynecology and urogynecology. Recognized as a Fellow in the Society for Urologic Nurses and Associates, she has contributed significantly to patient care and research in urogynecology. Dr. Pair has co-authored six chapters on urogynecology topics in Advanced Health Assessment of Women: Skills, Procedures, and Management, 5th edition. She has presented nationally to a variety of audiences and published numerous articles on urogynecology procedures and pelvic health.

 

Christena Raines, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, PMH-BC

Christena Raines is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill. She is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years’ experience in treating and researching perinatal mental health.  At UNC she helped develop an integrated perinatal mental health model within the OB-GYN high-risk clinics and founded the UNC Perinatal Depression Support Group. She was a member of the planning team instrumental in opening the first in-patient perinatal psychiatric program in the US. Ms. Raines currently serves as the board chair emeritus and is a senior trainer for Postpartum Support International. She is founder and CEO of Chris Raines Consulting as well as maintaining a private practice. Ms. Raines is published and presents nationally on perinatal mental health.

 

Laurie Ray, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC

Dr. Laurie Ray is Assistant Clinical Professor at Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a board-certified Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner with patient care experience in a variety of settings, including a public hospital Title X clinic, academic medical centers, community-based clinics, and a mobile health bus. Her clinical expertise and interests include shared decision making in contraceptive counseling, cervical cancer prevention and colposcopy, abortion care, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and quality improvement work—particularly as a means of promoting health equity. Dr. Ray earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a focus on Population Health from Emory University. She has worked on clinical research trials studying novel vaginal rings and gels for HIV PrEP.

 

Sarah Vaillancourt DNP, WHNP-BC, RN

Dr. Sarah Vaillancourt is the Outpatient Quality Improvement Clinical Lead at California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative. She focuses on outpatient perinatal QI projects and provides clinical support to the Low-Dose Aspirin to Prevent Preeclampsia Campaign, funded by the March of Dimes. Her clinical experience includes providing sexual, reproductive, and perinatal healthcare in a Federally Qualified Health Center. Dr. Vaillancourt earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialty in Public Health Nursing. Her doctoral work included Title X service implementation and evaluation, outpatient perinatal quality improvement, and implementation of social health screening and adverse childhood experiences screening in reproductive age women. She additionally has expertise in clinical communication as a motivational interviewing facilitator, providing learning sessions and training opportunities multiple times per year.
